Personalized Private Instruction

Studio Muse’n encourages musical advancement through individualized instruction and performance. The teacher works closely with students (and parents) to understand learning styles, using experience with Neurodiverse populations to identify strengths and challenges, and use the findings to recommend methods to overcome the challenges. Close observation during lessons often identifies challenges associated with visual and muscular control, leading to solution recommendations that prove to be supportive of successes in learning in music and academics. Successes lead to self-confidence, which often leads to feeling the joy of sharing music with family and friends!

During lessons we emphasize musical interpretation, ergonomic positioning, sound quality, and effective practice approaches/technique. Flute students also receive instruction in flute/piccolo assembly and care.

During the Enrollment Lesson and for the first few lessons thereafter each student and I collaborate to select appropriate method books and theory books from which to study, and choose additional literature based on student interests. As we play music together I focus on students’ learning styles and help them maximize their natural gifts while offering methods to overcome the inevitable challenges that arise.

Frequency and duration of lessons depends greatly upon the student’s age, maturity, ability to focus, and student goals. Duration and frequency may vary as students progress and may increase during preparation for performances, competitions, and evaluations. Performance, ensemble playing, competition, and evaluation opportunities are available to all interested students.

Lessons are available in person at my studio, in students’ homes, and online. When teaching in-studio, I plan to visit each piano student’s home at least yearly (and during major growth spurts) to evaluate and adjust their playing positions, which must be modified as they grow.

Collaborations

Looking for an accompanist for a student performance or audition, or professional performance? My background as a flute player lends a thorough understand of the nuances of accompanying from the soloist perspective. As an experienced vocal accompanist and church musician, I understand the nuances of supporting singers as they navigate lyric and style interpretations and related breathing techniques.

Need a rehearsal pianist? I have experience supporting solo pianists preparing for performances with ensembles and duo partnerships.

Extensive sight-reading experience offers the ability to step in as a substitute ensemble flutist. Performance experience in a variety of chamber music ensembles (flute/harp, woodwind quintet, piano duo, flute/piano, flute/organ, flute/voice/keyboard, recorder consorts, string/wind/piano chamber groups, live dinner theater pit groups) offers a solid ensemble partnership.

Are you a composer looking for a performance partnership? I have some experience providing ad hoc performances, enabling composers to hear their work live or via recording.
